Violet Versus Vietnam

Violet's sporadically-updated Vietnam blog documenting her year of teaching English in Tra Vinh and further adventures in Da Lat

Today I actually managed to sleep in until five! I am running out of ways to entertain myself during the wee hours of the morning, so I’d better kick this jetlag real soon. The music videos get repetitive after a while – they only seem to play that weird one with the teddy bear, Britney Spears, and a Korean pop song called “Roly Poly” (side note: this song is dangerously catchy. Youtube it if you dare. I had the chorus stuck in my head all afternoon when I was supposed to be concentrating on a very important lecture on the Vietnamese economy) – so I’ve taken to wandering around the top floors of the hotel to pass the time. I found the (not-so) secret staircase that leads to the roof-hatch, but I resisted the urge to go through it for fear of being caught and having Fulbright retract my grant for a violation of a No Hoodrattery clause.

Unrelated anecdotes:

I ate my weight in longans the other day.

The trash can in my bathroom gives me nightmares.

I found a plastic rainforest down an alleyway.
